Estimation was done via a simple linear model in R 2.14.1 [31], using log-transformed values of the duration of the EIP. (A) Results obtained from experiments with mosquitoes infected via intrathoracic injection; the solid line depicts the linear model for those data (adjusted R 2 = 0.40, p<0.001). (B) Results obtained from experiments with mosquitoes infected via feeding. Filled circles: SG tested positive for virus content, but transmission to mammals was either negative or not tested. Unfilled circles: Transmission to mammals was observed. Thick solid line: Linear model for cases where either transmission to mammals was observed or SG tested positive for virus content (adjusted R 2 = 0.34, p<0.001).
