Retrograde aortic dissection with bilateral renal artery occlusion after repair of infrarenal aortic aneurysm.

S D Strichartz1, H A Gelabert, W S Moore.

Abstract

After aortic aneurysmectomy, early postoperative anuric renal failure developed when a retrograde aortic dissection occluded both renal arteries in a 71-year-old woman. Preoperative renal function was retrieved by use of prompt angiography and reconstruction. We are aware of no other reports describing retrograde aortic and bilateral renal artery dissection after aortic aneurysm repair. The case is presented to call attention to this unusual complication and to provide a discussion of acute postoperative renal failure and recommendations for the management of the described complication.
