Abstract
BACKGROUND: Data on the economic burden of head and neck cancers (HNCs) in Germany is scarce. About 16%-28% of these cancers are associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Therefore, the study reported here aimed to assess the annual costs of HPV-related HNCs incurred by hospitalization, inpatient rehabilitation, and sick leave in Germany in 2008.Entities:

Notes:
Including inter alia inexpensive chemotherapy covered and reimbursed by respective diagnosis-related groups;
no expensive chemotherapy that is reimbursed via an additional fee could be linked to the extracted diagnosis-related groups due to the nature of the database used (G-DRG Browser18);
variety of services provided in institutional or home care settings for those who are unable to perform activities of daily living independently for an expected period of at least half a year due to illness or disability.
