Examining the evidence for the use of probiotics in clinical practice.

Abstract

This article reviews the use of probiotics in clinical practice, including explanations of what they are and how they work. Evidence for the health benefits of consuming probiotic bacteria and yeast are examined in several clinical conditions. The problems associated with making recommendations for the use of probiotics in clinical practice are also discussed.
