Promoting culturally competent care: the Erasmus exchange programme.

Avril Milne1, Jean Cowie.

Abstract

It is important to prepare nursing students for professional practice in a culturally diverse healthcare environment. The school of nursing and midwifery at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, has invested in promoting the Erasmus exchange programme to provide nursing students with the opportunity to undertake practice learning abroad and improve their ability to provide culturally competent care. This article describes the work done to increase the number of students who are able to take up this opportunity at the university.
