[Changes in the posterior eye segment in glaucoma patients].

J Németh1.

Abstract

In 30 eyes of 15 patients with chronic glaucoma (8 with open-angle glaucoma, 6 with chronic angle-closure glaucoma, 1 with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma), the intraocular pressure was measured and ultrasonic biometry and ultrasonographic determination of the thickness of the posterior coats of the eye were performed. Our results indicate that in patients with glaucoma, the thickness of the posterior coats of the eye is considerably influenced by intraocular pressure. If the axial length of the eye is the same, the thickness and volume of the posterior coats of the eye decrease with the increase in intraocular pressure.
