Effect of lithium on the intracellular potassium concentration in sheep heart Purkinje fibres.

Abstract

Simultaneous measurements were made of the intracellular activities of potassium and lithium in sheep heart Purkinje fibres using ion-sensitive microelectrodes. On exposure of the fibres to lithium, the intracellular activity of lithium rose, with an equivalent decrease in the level of intracellular potassium.
