Abstract
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a nutrition education intervention package in improving anthropometric, clinical and biochemical indicators of rural older Malays with metabolic syndrome (MS). DESIGN AND SAMPLE: In this study, 47 older Malays diagnosed with MS were assigned to either the intervention group (n = 24) or the control group (n = 23) based on their geographical site. INTERVENTION: The intervention group received nutrition education via group counselling sessions, talks, and cooking and exercise demonstrations using a specifically developed healthy aging package for 6 months. MEASURES: The efficacy of the nutrition education intervention on anthropometric and biochemical parameters was assessed.Entities:
