Abstract
In the female red-sided garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis) mating initiates a neuroendocrine reflex that has both a short-term (within hours) effect on circulating estrogen concentrations and a long-term (6-7 weeks) effect on ovarian development. The perception of mating appears at least facultative, if not obligatory, for the initiation and maintenance of vitellogenesis and hence successful reproduction.Entities:
