Calcium and vitamin d metabolism, deficiency, and excess.

Jill Cline1.

Abstract

Vitamin D and calcium metabolism are complex and interrelated, and at the same time tightly controlled via feedback loops established to conserve calcium homeostasis. This article reviews the metabolism of both calcium and vitamin D, and the nutritional deficiency and excess syndromes that can lead to an imbalance of one or the other of these nutrients.
