Abstract
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between gluteal adipose tissue fatty acids and sleep quality parameters in obese patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS). METHODS: Fatty acids were measured by gas chromatography in 63 OSAS patients, and sleep was assessed by polysomnography. RESULTS: Significant positive correlations were found between total sleep time, sleep efficiency, slow-wave sleep, and fatty acid concentrations (myristic, palmitic, stearic, saturated fatty acids, oleic acid, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and n - 6 fatty acids). CONCLUSIONS: The current study revealed associations between certain gluteal adipose tissue fatty acids and sleep quality in obese patients with moderate to severe OSAS.
