Abstract
BACKGROUND: An increase in the prevalence of thyroid disease has been found with increasing iodine intake, since universal salt iodization (USI) was instituted throughout China in 1996. The mean age of both the total patients and female patients with thyroid carcinoma after USI was lower than before USI (P<0.05) and that of male patients was NS.
