Abstract
An unusual transmural tumor-like myxoid lesion was found in the cervix of the hysterectomy specimen of a 43-year-old woman. Histochemically the lesion was positive for alcian blue but negative for periodic acid Schiff (PAS) staining. The immunohistochemical staining showed positive reactions for CD10 and CD34 but negative reactions for actin. The incidence of this lesion is unknown. Isolated involvement of the cervix as in the current case has not been described before. Several theories have been put forward for the pathogenesis of this lesion: 1) transfer of subepithelial tissue from the lower genital tract in the cervical region, 2) sequelae of progesterone therapy, 3) association with an autoimmune disease and 4) association with hypothyroidism. The current case does also not serve to solve the question on the pathogenesis of this lesion.Entities:
