Abstract
Contemporary geriatric research focuses mainly on observational clinical studies and epidemiological surveys and the translation of basic scientific results from biogerontology into a clinical context is often neglected. Following a definition of translational research the article gives an overview of recent key publications in experimental biogerontology with a special emphasis on their relevance for clinical geriatrics. The topics dealt with include age-induced loss of skeletal muscle (sarcopenia), the aging immune system (immunosenescence) and neurodegenerative disorders (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease).Entities:
