The treatment of pollinosis with Galphimia glauca D4 - a randomized placebo-controlled double-blind clinical trial -.

M Wiesenauer1, R Lüdtke.

Abstract

In 1987 we set up a study to evaluate the efficacy of Galpbimia glauca in treating patients suffering from pollinosis. According to a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled design we recruited 164 patients at several general practitioners. Verum-medication consisted of saccharose globule sprinkled with Galphimia glauca D4. The choice of the appropriate medication frequency was left to the physicians. Outcome was measured by nasal and ocular symptoms on a four level ordinal scale at two and four weeks after starting the treatment. Statistically significant differences (α = 5%) could be found for improvement of nasal and ocular symptoms at the first follow-up visit and for ocular symptoms at the second follow up visit. Confirmation for nasal symptoms at the second follow-up-visit failed.
