Abstract
PURPOSE: The serum level of immunoglobulin (Ig)E has been reported to be elevated in patients with Kawasaki disease (KD). We investigated whether interleukin (IL)-21, rather than IL-4, could be related to elevated serum levels of IgE in KD.Entities:

Demographic characteristics and laboratory data of patients with KD and febrile controls
KD, Kawasaki disease; CAD, coronary arterial dilation; ESR, erythrocyte sedimentation rate; CRP, C-reactive protein; TEC, total eosinophil count.
Fig. 1The elevated serum level of interleukin-21 (IL-21) in Kawasaki disease (KD). IL-21 was significantly elevated in patients with KD compared to febrile controls (P=0.0006). ***P<0.001.
Fig. 2Serum interleukin-21 (IL-21) and total IgE levels in patients with Kawasaki disease (KD). No significant correlation was found between IL-21 and total IgE (P=0.19).
Differences in ESR, CRP level, TEC, serum IL-21 level, and incidence of CAD between the group with a total IgE >100 IU/mL and the group with a total IgE <100 IU/mL
The values of ESR, CRP, TEC, IL-21, IL-4, and fever duration are depicted as median values with a range.
*Calculated by Fisher's exact test.
