Abstract
BACKGROUND: Studies show that poststroke depression (PSD) increases mortality risk at 1 year. However, whether PSD increases the risk of recurrent stroke at 1 year remains unclear. : Adjusted by gender, age, traditional risk factors for recurrent stroke (including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, smoking, high alcohol consumption, personal history stroke, history cardiovascular disease). And other co-variates (including gender, history cardiac disease, NIHSS at admission, ischemic stroke, anti-platelet, lower lipid drug, anti-depressant drugs).
Among 1713 patients with stroke, there were 481 patients with PSD at 2 weeks and 58 cases of cumulative recurrent stroke at 1 year. There were 1232 patients without PSD at 2 weeks, among which, there were 100 cases of cumulative recurrent stroke.

There were 481 cases of PSD at 2 weeks and 66 cases received anti-depressant drugs, among which there were 12 cases of cumulative recurrent stroke at 1 year. Among 415 cases who didn't receive anti-depressant drugs, there were 46 cases of cumulative recurrent stroke at 1 year.
