Abstract
BACKGROUND: Protein kinase RNA (PKR-regulated) is a double-stranded RNA activated protein kinase whose expression is induced by interferon. The role of PKR in cell growth regulation is controversial, with some studies supporting a tumour suppressor function and others suggesting a growth-promoting role. However, it is possible that the function of PKR varies with the type of cancer in question.Entities:

A significant positive correlation is obvious in which higher HAI and fibrosis scores are associated with high rate of PKR gene expression.

Figure 1Sensitivity and specificity of protein kinase R (PKR) quantitation in liver tissue: Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve showing highly statistically significant results in which AUC (area under the curve) is 99% and the best cut off value PKR gene expression is 27 with sensitivity of 96%, specificity of 96%, PPV of 96% and NPV of 96% with a diagnostic accuracy of 96% (P<0.0001). Cases with PKR >27 are more likely to be involved with HCC than those with level <27 (odd ratio = 24, 95%CI: 3.5 to 164).
