Abstract
BACKGROUND: Subperiosteal hematoma of the orbit is one of the rare lesions that cause exophthalmos after craniomaxillofacial trauma. Presently, there is no consensus for how to treat this disease. Although some reports have suggested a conservative type of therapy, others have recommended surgical treatments be done during the early stages. CASEEntities:

Figure 1Frontal view of the patient at the first visit. Purpura in the right upper eyelid and dislocation of the right eyeball is observed.
Figure 2Reconstructed coronal view of a CT image taken at the first visit. A contrast enhanced lesion can be seen within the right frontal lobe area. A low density area is located in the right orbit, just below the upper margin.
Figure 3A picture taken during the operation. Subperiosteal approach was performed during the operation. Although the procedure was performed 14 days after the initial injury, the backflow of the irrigation saline was still clearly red.
Figure 4Frontal view of the patient 2 years after treatment. Displacement of the right eye has improved.
