Abstract
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is a pleiotropic polypeptide. Its expression is tightly regulated and it plays significant roles during early development, maturation, and adulthood. This article discusses the roles of IGF-1 in determination of body size, skeletal acquisition, muscle growth, carbohydrate metabolism, and longevity, as learned from mouse models.Entities:
