Abstract
The present study investigated the effects of family economic stress on parental support and adolescent maladjustment in 622 9th through 12th graders in a Midwestern farm community. Economic stress had a direct effect on adolescent depressive symptoms, delinquency and drug use. The findings also indicated an indirect effect: increased stress was associated with lower paternal support for female, but not male adolescents, and lower paternal support for females was associated with higher female distress.Entities:
