Abstract
BACKGROUND: The major aim of this study was to investigate whether maternal risk factors associated with socioeconomic status and small for gestational age (SGA) might be viable targets of interventions to reduce differential risk of SGA by socioeconomic status (socioeconomic SGA inequality) in the metropolitan area of Vancouver, Canada.Entities:

* SGA risks over 3.7 year period of study under scenarios of reduced maternal risk factors calculated by assuming crude risks of SGA would remain constant within joint levels of average income quintile and smoking (model 1), average income quintile and underweight (model 2), and average income quintile and shorter height (model 3).
** Shorter height defined as bottom four quintiles of height.
