Abstract
Ornithodoros erraticus is known to transmit the virus that causes the highly contagious disease, African Swine Fever, in Spain. As part of the disease eradication campaign, an ELISA test to detect specific antibodies against the tick was developed. The ELISA, using salivary gland preparations as an antigen, showed high sensitivity and was able to detect as few as 10 adult ticks. The specific antibodies were detected in the sera 6 weeks after the primary infestation and strongly increased after the challenge. The utility of this test under field conditions was also tested.Entities:
