Abstract
This communication describes the etiology, frequency, and various symptoms involved in the phenomenon of dry mouth and also discusses in detail the objective tests generally used when evaluating patients for xerostomia as the oral component of Sjögren's syndrome. It is stressed here that no single test has a sufficiently high specificity and sensitivity and consequently we recommend that at least two tests should give abnormal results before the xerostomia diagnosis is accepted.Entities:
