P E Cleaton-Jones1, M E J Curzon.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Research involving human subjects requires approval by a research ethics committee before commencement. What appears to many researchers to be a daunting task can be relatively easy if approached sensibly. AIM: The aim of this paper is to offer advice to potential applicants for ethics approval of their research.
METHOD: The paper provides practical information, based on years of experience, for novice and experienced applicants to a research ethics committee.
