Abstract

OBJECTIVES: We compared the association of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) with metabolic syndrome (MetS). DESIGN AND METHODS: We examined 320 postmenopausal women (148 with MetS and 172 without MetS).
RESULTS: FSH was more strongly associated with MetS probability in the logistic regression model compared to SHBG. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves comparison showed greater areas under the curve for FSH than SHBG concentrations.
CONCLUSIONS: FSH exhibited a stronger coherence to MetS than SHBG in postmenopausal women.
