'Nurses have a duty to be kind, friendly and polite'.

Adele Waters, Alison Whyte.

Abstract

In a new four-part series, we examine the four strands of fundamental care that are being highlighted by the Care campaign and show how some hospitals are taking steps to ensure improvements. This week we look at communication. Good communication is central to quality care, yet nurses concede that it is not always effective with patients.
