Abstract
BACKGROUND: Endothelial lipase (EL) is a phospholipase expressed predominantly by vascular endothelial cells. The goal of the present study was to examine whether EL plasma levels in patients with carotid artery stenosis differ between those with previous history of neurological impairment and those without neurological symptoms.Entities:

Figure 1EL protein levels were determined in plasma of 24 asymptomatic and 31 symptomatic patients by competitive ELISA. The boundaries of the box indicate the lower and upper quartiles, the horizontal line the median (370.6 vs. 452.6 ng/ml) and the error bars the 95% confidence interval. Outliers are indicated by ‘°’ and significance is denoted by ‘*’ (P = 0.011).
