PubMed Central and Images (PaediatrCardiol)

Welcome to the 13th edition of Images Paediatr Cardiol. The Journal is preparing to participate in the PubMed Central (PMC) initiative. PMC is the United States’ National Library of Medicine's digital archive of life sciences journal literature. It has been developed and continues to be managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). This initiative aims to maintain free, full and unrestricted access to the life sciences literature, including medicine. PMC archives full text articles in a common format that naturally allows for more rapid searches and data collation. Copyright remains with the actual owner, whether it be the publisher or the original author/s. PMC follows in the highly successful footsteps of PubMed, an online database that is invaluable for the location of relevant medical articles, and we wish PMC well in it's endeavor.12

Brief Images

In keeping with the spirit of the Journal, this issue will contain a new section called ‘Brief Images’. Many journals devote space to a similar section. However, Brief Images will be unique in that we will be able to publish not only images, but also animations, sounds and other multimedia content. Submissions to this section should not exceed 700 words of text, do not need an abstract, should not exceed five references, and may contain any number of illustrations. There is a lot of interesting material out there as slides and tapes, or more recently, as digital (e.g. DICOM) images and animations. We hope that you will find this issue as interesting as the previous issues, and that this new section will encourage readers to submit material. We also promise to take good care of, and to safely return any material submitted for review and inclusion in this section.
