Abstract
Randomized, placebo-controlled trials have been conducted for nearly five decades in experimentally induced human influenza infections to assess the effectiveness, tolerability and pharmacological properties of influenza antivirals. The results of such studies have not only provided key proof-of-concept data to facilitate drug development but also contributed to our understanding of influenza pathogenesis and transmission. The lack of availability of contemporary, safety-tested virus inoculation pools in recent years needs to be resolved in order to avoid hindering the development of new drugs and vaccines.Entities:
