Use of Biopty gun for corpus cavernosum biopsies.

E Wespes1, M Depierreux, C C Schulman.

Abstract

Needle biopsy of the corpus cavernosum with the Biopty gun system has been performed in impotent patients. This technique is cost-effective, rapid, safe, relatively harmless and effective in obtaining erectile tissue to identify the presence of intracavernous structures (smooth muscle cells, collagen, arteries and nerves). It can certainly replace the open method, but we have to determine its place in the assessment of impotent patients.
