Abstract
Combinatorial chemistry was introduced in the 1980s. It provided the possibility to produce new compounds in practically unlimited number. New strategies and technologies have also been developed that made it possible to screen very large number of compounds and to identify useful components in mixtures containing millions of different substances. This dramatically changed the drug discovery process and the way of thinking of synthetic chemists. In addition, combinatorial strategies became useful in areas such as pharmaceutical research, agrochemistry, catalyst design, and materials research. Prof. Árpád Furka is one of the pioneers of combinatorial chemistry.Mesh:
