Abstract
Though HIV-1 is a sexually transmitted infection, the gut associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) that houses about 60% of the body's total immune cells is unequivocally the earliest and most important target of HIV-1. In this review we summarize recent data regarding the early events in HIV-1 pathogenesis, with special emphasis on pathogenic effects on the GALT.Entities:
