Wii eye injury: self-inflicted globe rupture and vision loss in a 7-year-old boy from a video game accident.

Hessom Razavi1, Geoffrey Lam.

Abstract

The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console released in November 2006. It is distinguished by its Wii Remote, a wireless controller that can be used as a handheld pointing device. We report a self-inflicted penetrating eye injury, late retinal detachment, and vision loss in a 7-year-old boy resulting from the use of a Wii Remote. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of severe ocular trauma from use of a wireless game controller. Crown
