Immunosuppressive and cytotoxic drugs: uses in the dermatologic patient.

J P Callen1.

Abstract

The agents discussed in this article have potential benefits to treat severe and otherwise recalcitrant disease and thus result in improved survival as well as an improvement in life-style. Table 6 lists the diseases that might be considered for treatment as well as the major side effects for each agent. However, closely linked to the efficacious effects of these agents are the potential toxicities. Prior to using any of these agents, the physician must be fully aware of both the potential benefit and the potential side effects. A full and complete discussion with the patient should also occur. Since patients often do not retain all the information given to them in this discussion, subsequent visits with the physician should reinforce the information.
