Abstract
Recent research links serum bilirubin levels to a positive function in human health. Yet in the neonate hyperbilirubinemia is associated to damage to the CNS and beyond. This article summarizes the evidence for the double edged role of bilirubin with a focus on the neonatal period. Also we briefly describe some of the current shortcomings in the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.Entities:
