Abstract
A flexion-distraction injury of the first lumbar vertebrae (Chance fracture) in a child 4 years and 3 months old is discussed and the literature reviewed. Chance features are uncommon in children. This injury is seldom accompanied by a neurological deficit. Recommended treatment consists of early bed rest followed by the application of a hyperextension Risser cast.Entities:
