Drugs from seaweeds.

S Abdussalam1.

Abstract

Extracts from seaweed are of botanical and pharmaceutical interest. They are used in traditional remedies in many parts of the world. A large number of edible seaweeds are consumed by the coastal peoples of Asia. Extracted substances from the plants have antibacterial actions and some of these substances have potential use in mosquito control. Other properties include antifungal activities and growth inhibition of other plants. Several chemical compounds have been isolated and identified.
