Abstract
An overview of ethologically-based animal models suitable for investigating the pharmacological treatment of anxiety disorders is presented. The DSM-IIIR classification provides a framework for the discussion. The limitations of the models in current use are considered. It is suggested that there is a need for a greater emphasis on animal models of anxiety with an etiological basis.Entities:
