Abstract

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes mellitus may affect profoundly the quality of life of patients. AIM: To assess health related quality of life among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL) questionnaire was applied to 296 patients with diabetes mellitus aged 63 ± lO years (201 women) seen in primary health care centers.
RESULTS: The concern about the future effects of diabetes was the worst evaluated domain. Women perceived a lower health related quality of life than men. There was an inverse correlation between age and satisfaction with treatment, concern about vocational, social and future effects of the disease.
CONCLUSIONS: Type 2 diabetes affects health related quality of life, especially in some specific domains such as perception of the future.
