Abstract
BACKGROUND: We aimed to find support for the hypothesis that telomere length (TL) is causally involved in the pathogenesis of ischemic heart failure (IHF). We measured TL in IHF patients and their high-risk offspring and determined whether mean leukocyte TL reflects TL in CD34+ progenitor. We additionally measured TL of offspring of patients and controls to examine heritability throughout different cell types. METHODS ANDEntities:

Data is presented as mean ± standard deviation or number (%). CHF – chronic heart failure; MNC – mononuclear cells; CD34+ – CD34-positive cells; The body-mass index is the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters; NYHA – New York Heart Association functional class; CRP – C-reactive protein; NTproBNP – N-terminal proB-type Natriuretic Peptide; ACE – Angiotensin Converting Enzyme; AII – Angiotensin II.
