Abstract
Because of the progress in chemotherapy for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, it has become quite rare to diagnose patients with genitourinary tuberculosis. In Japan, however, the incidence of tuberculosis remains comparatively high, particularly in elderly patients, among advanced countries. Furthermore, infectious adverse events associated with intravesical instillation therapy with bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG), which is one of the most useful agents against non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, are frequently developed. Considering these findings, it is still necessary to be well informed of the diagnosis as well as treatment for genitourinary tuberculosis. In this review, therefore, we would like to summarize the important topics concerning genitourinary tuberculosis, including BCG infection following intravesical instillation therapy for bladder cancer.Entities:
