Sir, I read the recent publication on seminal plasma zinc and semen quality in a subfertile population with a great interest.[1] Dissanayake et al. concluded that “Count, motility, viability, pH and viscosity are affected by variations of seminal plasma zinc.[1]” I would like to address some facts mentioned in this study. I agree that zinc level in semen has a relationship with fertility. However, this study is a kind of single parameter analysis. In a recent report, Zhang et al. proposed that the contents of trace elements in different body fluids are differently correlated with sperm quality.[2] Indeed, there are also many other trace element that can affect the quality of semen. For example, selenium level in semen is widely mentioned as having a strong relationship with semen quality.[3] To form a conclusion on this topic, it might be necessary to completely study the other trace elements that might be the confounding parameters that result in bias in interpretation.
