Abstract
Protothecosis is a rare infection by algae without chloroplasts. We report a case of an immunocompetent patient who had visited countries of south-east Asia. The lesion was present on the elbow, and consisted of a granuloma studded with cells and sporangiae of Prototheca. A computerized image analysis revealed large variations in the size and shape of the organisms. The lesion was successfully treated with itraconazole.Entities:
