Figure 1 (a-h)(a and b) Optical coherence tomography (horizontal scan) at the first visit shows bilateral subfoveal fluid collection. Overlying retina is atrophic OD; subfoveal fluid is hyper-echoic OS, due to fibrin/photoreceptor debris. (c and d) Two months later, OD shows a full-thickness macular hole, confirmed on Optical coherence tomography; subfoveal fluid OS resolved uneventfully (not shown). (e) Post-vitrectomy, macular hole OD has thinner edges, but is larger in size. (f) One week after sub-Tenon triamcinolone, the macular hole is almost completely closed. (g and h) Ten months later, closure is maintained with intact photoreceptor layer.
