The retrodural space of Okada.

Naveen S Murthy1, Timothy P Maus, Charles Aprill.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The retrodural space of Okada is a potential space that can act as a conduit for the spread of inflammatory or infectious processes, connecting ipsilateral adjacent facet joints, contralateral adjacent facet joints, adjacent neural foramen, paraspinal musculature, and spinous process adventitial bursa (i.e., Baastrup disease).
CONCLUSION: Awareness of these potential retrodural communications during diagnostic imaging interpretation and interventional spine injection procedures can play an important role in patient care and management.
