Abstract

We reported a lethal case of meningitis due to Lactobacillus rhamnosus as a late complication of anterior cervical spine surgery in an 80 years old lady. The anterior plate graft was responsible for a fistula between the oesophagus and meningeal space. This case illustrated the difficulty of early diagnosis of such infrequent complication and suggested that dysphagia following anterior cervical spine surgery should prompt cervical imaging.
