Abstract
Women with chronic pelvic pain are frequently referred to gynaecologists as over 50% also have genitourinary or irritable bowel symptoms or both. When no specific pathology is found and the pathophysiology is unclear, the aetiology is probably an interplay of neuropathic, inflammatory and functional factors. The principles of medical and surgical treatment are discussed and should be based on evidence-based medicine.Entities:
