Abstract
The general hospital context within which the need for a psychiatric consultation emerges is briefly described. The forms that such requests assume are classified. The communicative distortions observed in this process are understood as a solution of compromise dictated by role perception, organizational communication style and the actual needs of the professionals requesting the consultation.
