Adverse reactions to contrast media.

N Epstein.

Abstract

Two case histories are presented of patients having adverse reactions to urographic contrast media, one severe and the other fatal. The role of the family physician is stressed in communicating with consultants and the radiological department of the hospital to which patients are referred for contrast media studies. The patient's previous history of allergies, particularly sea food allergy, and any previous reaction to urographic contrast media are of great importance. This information should be given to the radiologist at the time of referral.
